THE Students Representative Council of the University of Science and Technology announced here yesterday that all the remaining 2,500 stu-dents of the university have resolved to boycott lectures in support of their 500 collea-gues of the Queen’s Hall who were ordered to go home last Monday.
The students would not resume academic life unless their colleagues were back on campus and there was no victimization whatsoever of any student.
Mr Ofei Kwesi, SRC president who announced the decision at a press conference held at the UST here, said that their action was due to the inability of the university administration to resolve the Queen’s Hall issue for the past three weeks.
He observed that some of the problems facing the hall affected every student on the campus, adding that no inves-figations were carried out to establish the fault before punishment was meted out.
The SRC president said the students viewed the action by the authorities as an arbitrary use of power. contrary to natural justice, and should be resisted.
He declared that the SRC had up till now not been officially informed of the rustication order.
Referring to newspaper publications that students of the UST had kidnapped the wife of the Director of Academic and Students Affairs, Mr Kwesi denied that it was not a case of kidnapping and quoted the Ghana Criminal Code of 1960, Act 29 Chapter 5, Section 90 to support the claim.
