A section of the student-body of the Kumasi University of Science and Technology on Tuesday assaulted their colleagues who attended lectures in defiance of the order by the students for a boycott. 

Eye-witnesses said nearly 20 students who attended lectures suffered injuries and were treated and discharged at the university hospital. 

A spokesman for the university said the lecturers called off their strike action when they became satisfied that all the students of Queen’s Hall had complied with last Monday’s “Go-home” order. 

He said the student-body, which decided not to resume normal academic life unless the Queen’s Hall students were called back to campus, were obviously angry that another group, calling themselves ‘Concerned students for a peaceful settlement of Queen’s Hall crisis’, had attended lectures. 

The spokesman said the student-body marched to the lecture halls and attacked those who had defied their order. Sticks, empty tins and other missiles were used in the attacks. 

They caused damage to project work  as well as studio and laboratory reports meant for external examinations. 

Meanwhile, the university authorities have reported the incident to the police and called for protection for students who are prepared to attend lectures.
