On behalf of our dear brothers and sisters from Cape Coast on our own behalf, we wish to register our strong protest against the high-handed and tyrannical manner in which the Senate of Cape Coast University has handled the legitimate demonstration on their campus. 

Having acquainted ourselves with the facts of the incident we cannot but reiterate our strong and militant solidarity with our fellow students at Cape Coast in their demand for a better treatment from the University administration. In the same vein we also condemn our University authorities here in Legon for the general lack of concern for the welfare of the students. We caution that if any ugly and more serious incident is to be avoided here in Legon then the general attitude of the administration must change and more particularly the catering system must be improved. We earnestly call on our own Vico-Chancellor to seriously reconsider his position in our demand for full refund of unused coupons – the attraction of overhead in such a case is morally indefensible. 

Lastly, to establish peace and stability on the campuses, we approval to the Government: 

  1. i) To set up a committee to examine the catering systems in thoUniversities. 
  2. ii) To force for the democratization of decision making in the Universities particularly in important matters affecting students on the campuses. In such cases the views of the students must be given matured consideration. 

iii) The tendency for authorities in institutions of learning to resort to arbitrary and punitive closures must be checked once and for all. 

iv)The decision of the University Council of Cape Coast to hand over some of the students to the Police for prosecution must be reversed. The vindictive victimisation of some...
