The party was tonight described as the Nation’s political platform for the realisation of the people’s just objectives, as well as the embodiment of their collective will. Defence Minister Kofi Baako made this observation when speaking at the Inauguration of a Party branch at the University of Ghana here. Noting that the Party had given birth to the independence state of Ghana, Mr Kofi Baako said: “We must ensure at all times that it continues to nurture the State”, to animate the people, to activate their energies and to inspire them for the great task ahead. He said since the University was an institution of the people. designed to pursue objectives which were in the interest of the people. The Party was naturally interested in its well-being and in the welfare of those who taught and learned. The principles of service to the community he said should reflect in the academic and social activities of the universities. He assured the students that the Party, guided by the principles of Nkrumaism, would do its utmost to provide vacation jobs not only in the Ministries and offices, but also on farms in the factories and on social and cultural fields as well. Mr N. A. Welbeck, Executive Secretary, Mr N. A. Welbeck declared the Party branch open. Professor W. E Abraham, head of the Department of Philosophy of the University, said that a a mass Party, equipped with suitable dynamic ideology, was the only kind of political organisation through which the people could be imbued with a regenerative concept of the world and life, and guarantee for the people that political power which belonged to them, Mr the Kodwo Kwame Addison, Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute, Winneba, said “the University is expected to make a worthy and notable contribution towards the progress of society.” Other speakers were Mr. Alex Quaison-Sackey, Ghana’s Permanent representative at the United Nations. Mr. S. G. Ikoku,, senior lecturer of the Institute, Education Minister, Kwaku Boateng was the chairman at the function.
