The secretary of the Students Representative Council, University of Science and Technology, has announced his resignation from the secretariat, with the explanation that he did not agree with the majority opinion of boycotting lectures at the university. Speaking to the Times’ in an interview at the UST campus here yesterday, the SRC secretary, Mr M. K. Ohene Bonsu, observed that the university had reached a stage where the concept of education must be strongly connected with national development and social problems.
He said he was convinced of the original strategy of resuming normal lectures whilst the SRC entered into peaceful negotiations with the administration, the aim of which was to ensure a prompt return of Queen’s Hall students to campus unconditionally.
This would have demanded a change in strategy by both parties— the student-body and the university administration which could allow for maximum utilization of educational rights geared towards national progress.

Mr. Bonsu stressed that he was not interested in the use of power for its own sakė, adding that “power ought to be employed for the betterment and purposeful transformation of society”.
He pointed out that from the onset of the Queen’s Hall issue, there had been calculated attempts to misrepresent, exaggerate and distort facts presented by him. These attempts made his actions not only seem suspi-cious but also generated unhealthy confrontations between some students and himself.
The SRC secretary noted that the necessary and appropriate grounds upon which he could translate into practical reality his welfare programme was negligible.
