…Following the cessation of the “Legon Observer the Legon Society on National Affairs on October 3, 1974 issued a public statement explaining the circumstances leading to the suspension of the publication and correcting some erroneous impressions which certain persons had tried to create. In that statement, we assured our readers that as soon as it became possible we would be back. 

We are now re-appearing and to refresh the minds of our readers on what really happened to the Legon Observer, we reproduce below the full statement we issued on October 3, 1974 and narrate the developments since then. 

On Monday, 22nd July, 1974, the following letter was delivered by hand to Professor K. A. B. Jones-Quartey at his office at Legon:
