UNION GOVERNMENT–WHY VOTE “NO” 

HUMAN RIGHTS: 

Unigov takes away your RIGHT to ASSOCIATE with others for political action. It threatens such other basic freedoms as freedom of expression and the freedom to assemble and to worship. These are basic God-given rights of a sovereign people, You cannot surrender any of them and hope to remain one as a people. UNIGOV IS DANGEROUS 

DICTATORSHIP: 

Unigov is a blueprint for the personal dictatorship of one man—The President. It is a copy of the American Presidential system but without the institutions which make the American system work as a democracy namely political parties, and a strong Congress. 

WE REJECT DICTATORSHIP. 

MILITARY RULE: 

Unigov is a clever device to perpetuate military rule in Ghana. It is not true that Unigov can prevent coups. History does not support this claim. There have been already 7 coup attempts in Ghana since 1972. The only way to prevent coups is for the Army to respect the democratic choice of the people. Unigov is merely a trick to keep certain persons in power. 

DOWN WITH MILITARY RULE 

PARLIAMENT: – 

(1) Under Unigov, Parliament will not be able to take decisive action. It will be a rowdy and purposeless Parliament—a mere rubber stamp.

VIOLENCE IN POLITICS: 

Unigov will re-introduce violence and intolerance into national politics. Witness the activities of the Peace and Solidarity Council and the other satellite groups; how about the use of thugs to disrupt the meetings of peaceful people of different persuasion; how about the general encouragement of thuggery – the use of y official vehicles to convey thugs with instructions to kill as was witnessed in Kumasi on Saturday, February 4th; how about the mounting scale of police brutality; how about the virulence of the official news and information media against opponents of Unigov; their lies and sordid cheatings; How about the way the Government of the S.M.C. has conducted the Unigov debate? Certainly compared with the peaceful elections of 1969 

UNIGOV IS A MONSTER IN THE MAKING 

WE REJECT VIOLENCE AS A WAY OF LIFE: 

WE REJECT VIOLENCE AS AN INSTRUMENT OF PERSUATION 

WE REJECT VIOLENCE IN POLITICS. 

S.M.C. AND UNIGOV – NO CHANGE:- 

There would be no difference at all between the S.M.C. Government and the proposed Union Government. The Army, Police and Civilians will be there as they are there now. 

The only addition would be the proposed Parliament which, however, would be weak, amorphous, indecisive and ineffective. All power would be vested in the Executive and the President as now all power is vested in the S.M.C. and the Chairman of the S.M.C. General I.K. Acheampong. Parliament under Uniger would be a mere constitutional appendage.

 UNIGOV will be S.M.C. in new clothes—a constitutional endorsement of the S.M.C. 

What can one expect under UNIGOV then? 

Nothing that is different from today the shortages of essential commodities, the lies of government and the news media, the violence of the Peace and Solidarity Council, intimidation and violent attacks on opponents, growing unemployment, inflation, wasteful expenditure of foreign exchange including the importation of Prophets, Gurrus and corruption, incompetence, detention without trial, etc. 

VOTE NO TO END ALL THESE 

VOTE NO TO REVIVE THE ECONOMY OF GHANA 

VOTE NO TO PROTECT YOUR FREEDOMS AND RIGHTS 

VOTE NO TO END MILITARY OCCUPATION OF THIS COUNTRY!
